Creating a trip plan and sharing it with your emergency contact is essential. Please download the Everett Mountain Rescue Trip Plan, fill in the appropriate information and print. Give this form to a responsible person who can provide the information to Search and Rescue in the event you do not complete your trip as scheduled.

Trip Planning Essentials

Research Your Route

  • Study topographic maps and trail guides
  • Check current trail conditions and closures
  • Identify water sources, campsites, and escape routes
  • Note elevation gains and technical difficulties

Check Weather & Conditions

  • Review extended weather forecasts
  • Check avalanche conditions if applicable
  • Consider seasonal hazards (flooding, ice, etc.)
  • Have backup plans for poor weather

Plan Your Schedule

  • Set realistic daily mileage goals
  • Include rest days for longer trips
  • Plan arrival and departure times
  • Consider group fitness levels and experience

Prepare Your Group

  • Discuss expectations and goals
  • Assign roles and responsibilities
  • Share emergency contacts
  • Ensure everyone has appropriate gear

If Someone is Overdue

  • Call 911 immediately - do not wait
  • Do not contact Search and Rescue directly
  • Provide the trip plan information to authorities
  • Stay available for additional questions
